Young Jane Goodall loves animals. In McDonnell's book we are shown how Jane's early life helped create the woman she later became. This nonfiction work is a perfect entry book to the genre.
Evaluative Criteria: Style
In Patrick McDonnell's book on Jane Goodall, we see how he uses style to create a beautiful biography accessible to children. Through the use of illustrations and the way the story is narrated, we receive the information as if it were a work of fiction. This method would make nonfiction a viable contender for bedtime reading while also helping to create connections for future subjects in the classroom. This is a great entrance into the nonfiction genre because it provides information in something "chewable" rathere than given all at once. This is seen with the way the information is presented, it would be able to fit into a plot diagram as well as any other graphic organizer to record information. McDonnell's style and story helped bring Jane Goodall to life .
