Comics Squad by Various

Summary:

Comic Squad Recess! is filled with short comics that revolve around multiple characters. This selection will not only have you make you laugh like no other, but it will also be useful in helping students see connections to literary devices and figurative elements. We will see tales of lunch ladies and pizza monsters, and ninja warriors in a secret society. What more can we ask for?

Evaluative Criteria: Characterization and Style

In Comics Squad we are introduced to many life-like characters. The reason they are so life-like is because they find themselves in situations where, although not always relatable, they are forced to show their human charactersitics and qualities to overcome their situations. This is seen in the beginning when the ninjas are forced to discuss what you would do if you are in a position where people do not want to associate with you. The fact that in the end our characters still have human qualities, despite their “other” qualities, helps make the characters relatable to the readers.
The style shown in this compilation is very unique in that although they are authored by different people, the comics still have a cohesion that helps the reader see the connectedness. The use of different words and style are seen from comic to comic; where one comic would include jargon, another would recreate words that a young child would write. This makes this compilation special compared to other books in this genre.
