Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! by Laura Amy Shultz

Summary:

Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! is a world that is set in the 1200s. We are introduced to multiple characters that not only share how life was like for early Europeans, but also show how we can connect to them more than we think. Through lovable characters and through their use of writing, we can help bring this world to life!

Book Review:

The Lord’s Nephew, the Pilgrim, the Mud Slinger, and nineteen other characters introduce the reader to life and times of 1255. Although the rural English setting may be unknown to some of us, young readers can make connections to the thoughts and feelings of the characters listed. Feelings of inadequacy like Hugo, the Lord’s nephew, or the feelings of insecurity like Taggot, the Blacksmith’s daughter will have readers understand that these thoughts and feelings have been around for hundreds of years. These characters, though different from our modern world in some respects, still give us a glimpse at the human plight to be accepted and finding your own niche in a changing world.
