Evaluative Criteria: Setting and Characters

Leigh Botts is a young boy infatuated with his new author friend, Mr. Henshaw, who helps him cope with his divorced parents, stolen lunch, and general questions about adolescence. Leigh lives in California with his single mother who does her best to make ends meet, but what he really is in the need of is a father figure who can help him get over this tough part in his life. Lucky for him, he lives in a town where truckers, like his dad, stop by to leave loads, so this enables him to hope with all his might that his father will stop by and save him from his problems. Unfortunately, it isnt the case. Through his letters to Mr. Henshaw, we see Leigh grow and process his personal issues even if the letter isnt being read or responded to. Leigh finds that strength can be found in many places.
